SMART Coaching is focused on your health, wellbeing, sporting & athletic goals through individual and group activities.

Coach, Ben Johnson, is widely experienced as a sports fitness adviser & coach with a high level of technical knowledge.

Ben has successfully competed in Triathlon, Surf Club and Cycling competition.

All levels, and ages, of athletes are catered for ranging from beginners to advanced level.

Ben has written training programmes for athletes competing up to World Triathlon Championship level. Those athletes attaining personal best times and goals.

Ben has much pleasure in working with junior athletes and seeing them develop and compete through to senior competition.

MEET THE COACH

Ben Johnson

Ben has had a passion for sports his entire life. He began with soccer at a young age, gaining State and National Futsal titles. He then went on to Surf Life Saving where he trained like a professional athlete throughout his teenage years and competed at State and National level.

Next was Outrigging where he was once again successful at achieving multiple State medals and a National medal in the OC6 category, while balancing his training with full time work.

He found his true passion in triathlon 10 years ago and has been competing in sprint to IRONMAN  distances ever since. Feeling he had something to offer the sport, he recently gained his level 1 Triathlon certification and has been coaching since 2014.

Ben is now driven to pass on his lifetime of knowledge to help his athletes achieve things they never thought possible.

Ben firmly believes the purest form of triathlon is at junior level. He has developed and implemented the SMART Coaching junior program to give bright, young, up and coming triathletes the skills they need to becomes the best triathlete they can be.

At SMART Coaching we believe in pushing you outside of your comfort zone so you achieve results that you never thought possible.

We help you set SMART goals and then provide you with the training framework, training sessions and guidance you need to be able to achieve those goals. Along the way we provide expert advice and training tips and hold you accountable to your commitments.

KICKR CLASS

KICKR is a indoor bike power session, conducted in our studio. You simply bring your own bike along to the class which we then hook up to a KICKR machine.

The KICKR is a revolutionary trainer that works without your rear wheel so there is no tire wear, less noise and a much smoother ride than you would get on a wind trainer.

All of our KICKR trainers are connected wirelessly to a central computer that automatically adjusts resistance for each person.

If you’re looking to increase speed, power, endurance or just general fitness on the comfort of your own bike, then a KICKR class is for you.

SMART STRENGTH & CONDITIONING CLASSES

SMART Coaching’s Strength and Conditioning sessions are designed to improve overall strength, speed and endurance for Triathlon.

Bookings are essential.

These classes are a great overall workout for fitness and endurance. They encompass all of the Matwork Pilates principles of sound body awareness and core control. They focus on building muscle strength using your own body weight and lifting weights.

Multiple classes per week available.

REMEDIAL MASSAGE / SPORTS MASSAGE

IMPROVE POSTURE, BALANCE AND BODY AWARENESS

If you are a social or competitive athlete, you stand to benefit significantly from the effects of Remedial Massage.

This form of massage incorporates several techniques that assist in healing, relieving pain and sore muscles, preventing and managing injury as well as improving sports performance.

By having regular massages both during training periods as well as in the off-season, you can reduce fatigue and the delayed onset of muscle soreness and injury. Massage can also help restore muscle length and shape, realign fibres and to increase flexibility where needed. By feeling physically better, you can increase your confidence levels in your performance.

FAQ

What can SMART Coaching do for you?

We give you the tools and guidance that you need to reach your full potential as an athlete in order for you to achieve the goals you have set yourself.

Should I seek medical advice?

If you have any underlying health issues (ie. Heart condition, kidney condition, diabetes), than medical advice is a priority. Also if you have existing long term injuries see a health professional. We do have a lot of knowledge of the body, but we are not health practitioners.

Do you have diet/nutrition plans?

Our coaches are able to provide you with a guide to healthy eating habits that will support your training and exercise schedule. If you do require comprehensive meal planning then we suggest you engage a dietitian or nutritionist. We can refer you to some contacts that we work closely with in this field if required.

Is strength and conditioning training worth it?

Yes, in short. Strength and conditioning training brings everything together. With the proper program you’ll find that you will be not only stronger, but a more balanced athlete. 1-2 sessions per week is recommended.

If I swim more, will I get faster?

No. Swimming is an extremely technical sport. The only way to have significant improvements in the water is by working on your technique with a coach.
